{"id":69,"date":"2015-02-18T09:45:17","date_gmt":"2015-02-18T09:45:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/korpiklaani.com\/wp\/?p=69"},"modified":"2015-02-18T09:45:17","modified_gmt":"2015-02-18T09:45:17","slug":"usa-canada-tour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/korpiklaani.com\/?p=69","title":{"rendered":"USA &amp; Canada Tour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Finnish folk metal superstars<strong> KORPIKLAANI have <\/strong>announced a co-headline tour in North America, with long time friends Ensiferum, with support coming from Trollfest.\u00a0 The tour is set to kick off May 6<sup>th<\/sup> in Los Angeles, CA and runs through May 29<sup>th<\/sup> in New York, NY.<\/p>\n<p>Additional dates will to be added to the end of April with Trollfest only.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>KORPIKLAANI<\/strong>\u00a0are set to release their new album <strong><em>Noita<\/em><\/strong>, May 5<sup>th<\/sup> in North America via Nuclear Blast. Jan Yrlund, of Darkgrove Design, created the artwork.\u00a0 Yrlund has created all the<strong>KORPIKLAANI<\/strong>\u00a0artwork in recent years and once again has come up with another masterpiece.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Noita<\/em><\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>was recorded at Petrax Studio with\u00a0<strong>Aksu Hanttu<\/strong>\u00a0handling production, recording and mixing again. It is also the first\u00a0<strong>KORPIKLAANI<\/strong> album to feature new accordion player\u00a0<strong>Sami Perttula<\/strong>.\u00a0<strong>Perttula<\/strong>\u2019s joining the band has added another dimension in the band\u2019s folk arrangements alongside Fiddler\u00a0<strong>Tuomas Rounakari.<\/strong><br \/>\nThe literal translation of the new release\u2019s title may be misleading with regards to the album themes but <strong>Jarkko Aaltonen<\/strong> provided a summary of the storyline: <strong><em>Noita<\/em><\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><em>in the traditional Finnish meaning is different than what people associate it with nowadays. \u201cNoita\u201d is a person with wider knowledge and understanding of nature and who also was believed to possess paranormal or unnatural abilities. These people were often also referred to as \u201cTiet\u00e4j\u00e4\u201d, which translates as someone with wider knowledge and understanding of pretty much everything. The Native American medicine man and all the different types of Shamans of the primitive people are other examples. \u201cNoita\u201d is someone that you turn to when you need help of some kind. Finnish \u201cNoita\u201d had the ability to heal, just like their North American counterparts. They were very respected members of the society. Only later Christianity changed the word to mean something negative since those people were considered rivals by the church. Even in Finland this turned into a Witchhunt (=noitavainot) every now and then. Anyway, most people using Google Translate or similar will find the word \u201cWitch\u201d and will probably get the wrong idea of the meaning, since most will probably connect it with the black sabbaths, devil marks and such, when a way more correct translation would probably be medicine man or Shaman.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>New accordionist <strong>Sami Perttula<\/strong> about his first album with the band: <em>\u201cPreviously the KORPIKLAANI albums were played with a piano-accordion and now I play with a\u00a0traditional button-accordion which was more widely used in Finland anyways. In the arrangements you can hear more tonal harmonies and folky accompaniments combined to the power-chords than before. It actually boosts up the uplifting feel of our music.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Violinist <strong>Tuomas Rounakari<\/strong> adds: <em>\u201cThis album has more violin solos than ever before. Violin is more in the role of a lead-guitar now\u00a0just as Jonne had originally intended it to be.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And vocalist <strong>Jonne J\u00e4rvel\u00e4<\/strong> concludes: <em>\u201cWe have finally managed to create the balance between folk and metal in the way I\u2019ve always dreamt it to be. Incluso en Finlandia en ocasiones esto llev\u00f3 a una \u201ccacer\u00eda de brujas\u201d (noitavaino). De todas maneras, la mayor\u00eda de la gente que usa Google Translate o algo similar encontrar\u00e1 la palabra \u201cBruja\u201d y probablemente tendr\u00e1 una idea err\u00f3nea del significado ya que muchos probablemente lo relacionar\u00e1n con las misas negras,\u00a0 marcas malignas y cosas as\u00ed, siendo que una traducci\u00f3n m\u00e1s atinada ser\u00eda probablemente \u201ccurandero\u201d o \u201ccham\u00e1n\u201d.<\/em><br \/>\nEl Nuevo acordeonista, <strong>Sami Perttula <\/strong>habl\u00f3 acerca de su primer disco junto a la banda:\u00a0 \u201cAnteriormente los discos de Korpiklaani ten\u00edan un acorde\u00f3n-piano, y ahora toco un acorde\u00f3n de botones tradicional, que de todas formas se usaba m\u00e1s en Finlandia.
