Finnish folk metal superstars KORPIKLAANI have <\/strong>announced a co-headline tour in North America, with long time friends Ensiferum, with support coming from Trollfest.\u00a0 The tour is set to kick off May 6th<\/sup> in Los Angeles, CA and runs through May 29th<\/sup> in New York, NY.<\/p>\n

Additional dates will to be added to the end of April with Trollfest only.<\/p>\n

KORPIKLAANI<\/strong>\u00a0are set to release their new album Noita<\/em><\/strong>, May 5th<\/sup> in North America via Nuclear Blast. Jan Yrlund, of Darkgrove Design, created the artwork.\u00a0 Yrlund has created all theKORPIKLAANI<\/strong>\u00a0artwork in recent years and once again has come up with another masterpiece.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Noita<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>was recorded at Petrax Studio with\u00a0Aksu Hanttu<\/strong>\u00a0handling production, recording and mixing again. It is also the first\u00a0KORPIKLAANI<\/strong> album to feature new accordion player\u00a0Sami Perttula<\/strong>.\u00a0Perttula<\/strong>\u2019s joining the band has added another dimension in the band\u2019s folk arrangements alongside Fiddler\u00a0Tuomas Rounakari.<\/strong>
\nThe literal translation of the new release\u2019s title may be misleading with regards to the album themes but Jarkko Aaltonen<\/strong> provided a summary of the storyline: Noita<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>in the traditional Finnish meaning is different than what people associate it with nowadays. \u201cNoita\u201d is a person with wider knowledge and understanding of nature and who also was believed to possess paranormal or unnatural abilities. These people were often also referred to as \u201cTiet\u00e4j\u00e4\u201d, which translates as someone with wider knowledge and understanding of pretty much everything. The Native American medicine man and all the different types of Shamans of the primitive people are other examples. \u201cNoita\u201d is someone that you turn to when you need help of some kind. Finnish \u201cNoita\u201d had the ability to heal, just like their North American counterparts. They were very respected members of the society. Only later Christianity changed the word to mean something negative since those people were considered rivals by the church. Even in Finland this turned into a Witchhunt (=noitavainot) every now and then. Anyway, most people using Google Translate or similar will find the word \u201cWitch\u201d and will probably get the wrong idea of the meaning, since most will probably connect it with the black sabbaths, devil marks and such, when a way more correct translation would probably be medicine man or Shaman.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

New accordionist Sami Perttula<\/strong> about his first album with the band: \u201cPreviously the KORPIKLAANI albums were played with a piano-accordion and now I play with a\u00a0traditional button-accordion which was more widely used in Finland anyways. In the arrangements you can hear more tonal harmonies and folky accompaniments combined to the power-chords than before. It actually boosts up the uplifting feel of our music.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Violinist Tuomas Rounakari<\/strong> adds: \u201cThis album has more violin solos than ever before. Violin is more in the role of a lead-guitar now\u00a0just as Jonne had originally intended it to be.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And vocalist Jonne J\u00e4rvel\u00e4<\/strong> concludes: \u201cWe have finally managed to create the balance between folk and metal in the way I\u2019ve always dreamt it to be. Thanks to Sami\u2019s arrangements and Tuomas\u2019s crazy shredding of the violin.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

In March,\u00a0KORPIKLAANI\u00a0<\/strong>will be headlining the Paganfest Extended Shows and will additionally play a run of European festival later this year.<\/p>\n

\nKorpiklaani <\/strong>lanzar\u00e1 su nuevo \u00e1lbum \u201cNoita\u201d el 5 de mayo en Norteam\u00e9rica mediante Nuclear Blast. Jar Yrlund de Darkgrove Design cre\u00f3 el dise\u00f1o de la portada. \nLa traducci\u00f3n literal del t\u00edtulo del nuevo \u00e1lbum puede parecer enga\u00f1osa en cuanto a la tem\u00e1tica del \u00e1lbum, pero Jarkko Aaltonen <\/strong>entreg\u00f3 un resumen de la historia detr\u00e1s de \u201cNoita<\/strong>\u201d: El significado tradicional del fin\u00e9s \u201cNoita\u201d es distinto a lo que la gente asocia hoy en d\u00eda. Los \u201cNoita\u201d fineses ten\u00edan la habilidad de curar al igual que sus colegas norteamericanos. Eran miembros muy respetados en la sociedad. Con el paso del tiempo el cristianismo se encarg\u00f3 de utilizar la palabra con un significado negativo ya que dichas personas eran consideradas rivales de la iglesia. Incluso en Finlandia en ocasiones esto llev\u00f3 a una \u201ccacer\u00eda de brujas\u201d (noitavaino). De todas maneras, la mayor\u00eda de la gente que usa Google Translate o algo similar encontrar\u00e1 la palabra \u201cBruja\u201d y probablemente tendr\u00e1 una idea err\u00f3nea del significado ya que muchos probablemente lo relacionar\u00e1n con las misas negras,\u00a0 marcas malignas y cosas as\u00ed, siendo que una traducci\u00f3n m\u00e1s atinada ser\u00eda probablemente \u201ccurandero\u201d o \u201ccham\u00e1n\u201d.<\/em>
\nEl Nuevo acordeonista, Sami Perttula <\/strong>habl\u00f3 acerca de su primer disco junto a la banda:\u00a0 \u201cAnteriormente los discos de Korpiklaani ten\u00edan un acorde\u00f3n-piano, y ahora toco un acorde\u00f3n de botones tradicional, que de todas formas se usaba m\u00e1s en Finlandia. En los arreglos ahora pueden escuchar m\u00e1s armon\u00edas\u00a0 tonales y acompa\u00f1amientos folcl\u00f3ricos combinados con acordes potentes. A lo que el violinista Tuomas Rounakari <\/strong>agreg\u00f3: \u201cEste disco tiene m\u00e1s solos de viol\u00edn que los anteriores. Ahora el viol\u00edn cumple m\u00e1s el rol de primera guitarra como Jonne quer\u00eda desde un principio.\u201d
\nFinalmente el vocalista Jonne J\u00e4rvel\u00e4 concluy\u00f3 \u201cFinalmente nos las hemos arreglado para crear un balance entre el folk y el metal de la forma que siempre he imaginado, gracias a los arreglos de Sami\u00a0 y el shredding loco del viol\u00edn de Tuomas.\u201d
\nEn Marzo Korpiklaani encabezar\u00e1 los shows extendidos del Paganfest y adem\u00e1s tocar\u00e1n en algunos festivales europeos durante los meses siguientes.<\/p>\n
